Award of Purchase of New Demersal Trawl Doors (MS-P-0493)

Description

The Scottish Ministers, Marine Directorate invites tenders for the purchase of a set of new trawl doors for MRV Scotia, the second set, to undertake the internationally co-ordinated bottom trawl fish surveys.The survey follows a standardised trawl specification with is managed for ICES by the International Bottom Trawl Survey Working Group (IBTSWG).The standard trawl door specified by IBTSWG for these surveys is the Morgere polyvalent (AA09C) trawl door.A new survey trawl has been developed and is now being gradually incorporated into North Sea surveys. As part of the integration of the new trawl, there is a requirement to identify a modern, reliable replacement trawl door. Marine Directorate has conducted an extensive series of gear performance trials over recent years to evaluate alternative door designs. Following trials completed in May 2026, the Morgere Ovalfoil 08 door was identified as a suitable replacement, demonstrating performance comparable to the existing polyvalent doors and enabling continued survey standardisation.
