Opgaven består i at besigtige avl af præbasislæggekartofler under vækst, og registrere observationer af forekomst af virus, fremmed sort, afvigende type, sortbensyge og andre forhold, der har betydning for godkendelse og klassificering af avlen med henblik på salg som læggekartofler. På grundlag af de registrerede observationer, træffer Styrelsen for Fødevarer, Landbrug og Fiskeri afgørelse om avlens endelige klassificering til salg eller eventuel kassation.
